Unterkünfte in Staunton on Wye
Welcome to our absolutely magical glamping camps. Glamping is a chance to reconnect with family and friends and is as much about how you experience the outdoors as the space you stay in. Each site is individually designed and great thought has gone into making your stay an exciting adventure with huge comfort and privacy. You will spend your days walking the woods and orchards, fishing on the River Wye, relaxing in the comfortable sitting areas and cooking on open fires or pizza ovens.
The lodge was built in 1835 as a hunting lodge for Sir John Richard Cotterell and is situated privately on its own in the middle of 350 acre woodland on the family estate about a mile up a track. The lodge had not been used for probably 60 years but is now renovated to keep its charm and to make it comfortable for guests with proper beds and a sink with hot running water provided from its own well. It is completely off grid, with solar power for some light and to power the fridge. The lodge has three woodburners - one in each of the bedrooms and one in the sitting room. Wood is provided for you. The beds will be made up ready for your arrival and bath towels are also provided. The bathroom is found in a separately accessed outhouse house with a gas powered modern walk-in shower, wash hand basin and flushing loo, so this is not quite a typical camping experience, more like experiencing a turn back in time. There is a small camping stove for cooking, and also a huge firepit and outside sitting area with a woodfired hot tub nestled on the edge of the woodland. The lodge is ideal for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids). One well behaved dog is welcome. The closest bus and train service is Hereford, 9 miles away, your own transport is recommended.
Nearby Hereford has a wonderful cathedral and the famous Mappa Mundi is housed next door. The city also has all the usual shops and chain restaurants, historic walks and hidden gems. Hay-on-Wye is just up the road in 15 minutes and is a glorious border town, with plenty of history and has the literary festival there every year. The sites are close to the historic 'black and white trail' of Herefordshire, leading to the Brecon Beacons.

Magie ... !!!

Nestled in fabulous walking country with attractive towns & villages, superb pubs and tranquil open spaces all within easy distance. The views are glorious, overlooking wooded hills with the Black Mountains beyond. Hay on Wye with its bookshops and literary festival is 8 miles away. Hereford & its cathedral is within 14 miles. A warm welcome awaits couples, solo adventurers, cyclists, walkers, road trippers and anyone who relishes a recuperative rest in a tranquil and friendly place.
The Summer House is a pleasant 12ftx12ft wooden hut with a 6ftx12ft veranda and decking. There is a bistro table with chairs. The Summer House is situated in my 1/3 of an acre of garden. The garden is slightly overgrown, though purposely left wild in places! Raspberries and blackberries to pick when in season. Inside there is a king size bed, 10.5 tog duvet, four pillows and a spare blanket. All bed linen and sets of towels are provided. There is a table with sets of crockery and cutlery together with kettle, toaster and jars of tea and coffee. Fresh milk and water in bottles. Hanging rail with hangers; two bedside tables with lamps; 1500w Dimplex electric radiator. Two bistro seats, easy chair and cushion. Curtains and carpets. Lock on the door. The loo, wash basin and shower are in the extension to my house. It is for your own use - not shared with me or anyone else. It is 50yds across the garden and down a few steps - so not attached to the Summer House. Sensor lights turn on as you walk and I provide a torch. The sliding door into the extension remains open all night. In the main house's extension, by the shower room, there is a space for your use with a worktable and chair. Mini fridge. Wifi access is strong here, whereas it can be weak in the Summer House itself. This space can be used as a drying room for your wet clothes after a day in the mountains and hills. To the side of the main house is a gated driveway. This is for your own use - I park on the other side of the house, leaving you with free access in and out at all times. There are lockable sheds and garages for cycles and equipment. NB - Wifi is very slow after 5pm at the moment! Then again, perhaps it's nice to get away from such newfangled inventions!

The cottage is adjacent to our house in the quiet village of Bredwardine. We are in an excellent position for site seeing, walking and cycling, our local hotel is well known for salmon and course fishing along with good food there's also a number of country inns who serve food within a 10 minute drive for those who prefer not to cook. The county town of Hereford is approximately 12 miles and the famous town of books Hay on Wye is 8 miles.
We have a large lounge and bedroom and have a cot, travel cot and high chair if you have a baby or small child. Sit having breakfast whilst watching our pet ducks or the wild pheasants strolling past the window. There is a woodburner in the lounge but not for guests use.
We are in a very peaceful spot looking out across the Wye Valley. There are a number of footpaths going out across the fields adjacent to our cottage and the river Wye is only about 7 minutes walk away. The village church of St Andrews is known for the vicar and diarist Kilvert who lived here for the last two years of his life.

Black and white cottage near Wye Valley and the Black mountains. Near the Welsh border and Hay on Wye. I provide bed and breakfast in this peaceful part of Hereforshire. The village has a shop, post office, hairdresser and two pubs. The village has a number of timber framed black and white houses and is on the black and white trail.
A very peaceful area. My home is part of a converted tithe barn. The timber frame is 1530 , the beams are like concrete - I do know that as I have scraped most of them. This barn conversion was the first in Herefordshire and the house is spacious. Castle Close is Grade 11 listed
Quiet and peaceful. I can hear the sheep calling at night. No light pollution so clear starry skies.

A peaceful and cosy rural retreat surrounded by woodland, with spectacular views across the Wye Valley, only 10 minutes drive from Hay-on-Wye.
Access to The Hut is via a 100m walk up a steep field, ensuring that the only visitors will be the resident wildlife (or maybe 1 or 2 of our cats). Hot shower, sink and compost loo are located behind The Hut on the Hill. (In temperatures below freezing we need to turn off the shower and boiler and cover the boiler to protect the pipes as the tin hut is open to the weather - please get in touch with any questions or concerns) For cooking there is a camping gas twin hob and grill (gas supplied) and a fire pit for outdoor cooking or you can cook inside The Hut on top of the cast iron wood burner. A bbq is available but you will need to bring your own charcoal. There is also a small fridge for essentials, toaster and kettle. Fresh eggs from the chickens, ducks and sometimes the geese! For longer stays, during hotter weather, or if requested then an additional full size fridge freezer is available for use near the parking. Firewood and kindling is provided for the really cold nights or guests can use the oil-filled electric heater. Bear in mind that mobile phone signal is very poor... making The Hut on the Hill the perfect place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Whatever the time of year we suggest you bring wellies and/or walking boots as it can get muddy when it rains.
The Hut is surrounded by over 300 acres of common land, starting as woodland and clearing at the top as Merbach Common at only 318m but with a stunning 360 view across the Wye Valley, The Malverns, The Radnor Hills, The Black Mountains and The Brecon Beacons, all within easy reach with their fantastic walking and mountain biking. Other local activities include canoeing, horse riding and fishing (permits available from the Red Lion pub in nearby Bredwardine) or just sit back and watch the Milky Way light up the very dark skies. Nearer to The Hut, if you stay quiet, you might see deer, badgers and a wide variety of birds (including plenty of owls at night).

Wundervoller Gastgeber, wundervolle Wohnung. Ich würde wieder hier übernachten.

Bronte Retreat is a light and airy bungalow with stunning views from the main lounge and private garden. It is set within the manor of Norton Canon, practically opposite the 13th century church of St Nicholas. It is attached to another bungalow where Josie (one of your hosts), runs a sub Post Office. Bronte Retreat is a quiet place to stay if you don't mind the odd tractor passing or one of 3 friendly dogs saying hello. The accommodation is more than adequate in size and home comforts.
There is a good sized bedroom with a double bed and two put-up beds if needed. Please note that although the put-up beds are sturdy and comfortable we feel they are only suitable for children/teens. There is a private space for parking your car to the side of the property, a private garden with beautiful views and small patio area with table and chairs. A gas BBQ for those whose wish to use it is available. Access to the property in through the back with a key safe located next to the entrance for your convenience.
Norton Canon is close to many local attractions including Hay-On-Wye which is a small market town full of bookshops, map shops, clothes shops, galleries and cafes. it is often called "the town of books" and is the site of the annual Hay Literary Festival. Also a short distance away you will find The Black and White Village Trail which is a route through some of the prettiest villages and most beautiful landscape in England. More information can be found at: www.blackandwhitetrail.org The famous River Wye is a short drive or cycle away with plenty of canoe and kayak operators available who can offer a relaxing trip down river. Visit Bredwardine bridge, the very spot Mortimer and Whitehouse filmed an episode of Gone Fishing. If you prefer a longer walk then try The Wye Valley Walk, one of Britains long distance paths. More info at: www.wyevalleywalk.org For a more dramatic walk the Black Mountains can be reached in around 30 minutes from Bronte Retreat. Some truly amazing ridge top walks are easily accessible from the road through the park. A favourite is the ascent of Hay's Bluff to pick up Offa's Dyke trail along the top of the Hatterrill Ridge. Hereford a mere 20 minutes away is the home of cider and you can visit the cider museum which is the only Arts Council 'Accredited Museum' dedicated to the history of cider. Hereford Cathedral is the cathedral church of the Anglican Diocese and houses its most famous treasure the Mappa Mundi, a medieval map of the world created around 1300. The map is listed on the UNESCO memory of the world register.

Hinton Barns is a beautifully converted 18th Century Barn situated in the heart of the stunning Golden Valley in Herefordshire. The room is on the ground floor with an ensuite shower and opens onto a decked area which is a perfect peaceful breakfast spot. The gardens include lawn with Badminton nets, paved courtyard to watch the sunset with evening drinks and rear garden overlooking the east hills. Wonderful walking area rich in birdlife. Not far from literary Hay on Wye. Off road parking.
The village is quite small, people are friendly. There is a local shop with basics available like newspapers, milk, bread, drinks etc. The church has a community cafe which is open tuesday to friday from 11am to 2pm. The Nags Head does good pub food and great fish and chips on tuesday and fridays. There is a chip van that comes round on tuesdays, I've never tried it so can't comment on its fish and chips. Lots of nice walks around including taking a trip up the road to Dorstone which also has a good pub with nice food - The Pandy Inn. Hay on Wye is 9 miles away with nice shops, loads of book shops, art and craft and antique shops. Hereford is 12 miles away with Cathedral and a range of tourist attractions.

A cosy and beautifully equipped space for two (and that's what our guests say) in the glorious Golden Valley. Utterly peaceful, beautiful views. Ideal for walking, visiting Hay, Hereford, Brecon and the Welsh borders. Pets welcome (but not compulsory). Please note that we have no extra charges (such as cleaning).
In Herefordshire's beautiful Golden Valley, with easy access to Hereford, Hay-on-Wye or Abergavenny. A newly developed south facing annexe, entirely independent and separate from the main house, consisting of kitchen/sitting room, bathroom and bedroom with double bed. Equipped as we would expect it to be if we lived in it, so TV, Wi-Fi, IPad dock, wood burning stove, linen, towels and all kitchen equipment. It's designed ideally for 2, but extra people may be able to sleep in the house if necessary (enquire in advance). Minimum stay is 2 nights with reductions for a week or more. This is one of the few remaining unspoiled rural areas in the UK, with many walks including the Cat's Back, the Black Mountains, Offa's Dyke, and at 45 - 60 minutes drive, the Brecon Beacons. There is easy access to Hereford or Hay-on-Wye (20 minutes), also Abergavenny (30 minutes), Brecon (45 minutes), Ludlow (50 minutes), Cardiff (70 minutes), Swansea (90 minutes) - all assuming you have a car. There are a few buses, but a car is pretty essential. Hereford is the only place you will encounter much traffic (and Cardiff and Swansea of course should you get that far). Ideal for a walking holiday, exploring the Welsh Borders, the Hay Festival (when on), and even a weekend break doing absolutely nothing except relax in the peace of our beautiful countryside. Pets are welcome. We have a large red setter (Monty) who expects 24/7 cuddles and will do his best to convince you that he is in desperate need of food. He is NOT allowed in the unit, whatever he may try to tell you, and please don't encourage him as later guests may not be dog lovers. The garden (yard) is fully fenced so pets can be outside unsupervised. We do ask that you clean up after them, of course. Monty is very gentle with babies, especially if they throw their food on the floor, and is fine with cats, but definitely no pesky squirrels, please.
The village is very quiet, with shop, good restaurant, hairdresser, and 2 pubs. There are nearby farm shops and lots of walks. Herefordshire is spoiled for excellent inexpensive restaurants, but many are in out of the way spots. Ask for the latest recommendations.

This is a pretty, cosy bedroom for a single person. There is a lovely view of the garden and fields from the south facing window. The shared shower room, with toilet and washbasin, is a short step away on the landing.
We are in a very rural area, 1.5 miles down a narrow lane and next door to a traditional mixed farm. We are also 600ft above sea level and have a view down the Golden Valley to the Radnor Hills 16 miles away.

In beautiful, unspoilt Herefordshire Upper Newton Barn has views of the Welsh Mountains and is just 10 miles from Hay on Way, the famous centre for second hand books and home to the Literary Festival. For people who want to escape and relax!
Upper Newton Barn has been sympathetically converted with amazing light flooding into the open space. Relax in front of the woodburner whilst gazing out to the Welsh Mountains and enjoy the comfort of underfloor heating, a well equipped kitchen and some fabulous traditional board games to enjoy with a glass of wine late into the evening after an exerting day exploring Offa's Dyke. The barn has two bedrooms. You will see in the photo that there are two staircases. One staircase leads to the smaller of the two rooms with a shower room adjoining. Up the second staircase is the master room where there is a free-standing bath and basin. Light floods in from the gable end window and this is allowed to fill the whole barn and give you a real sense of space. Bed is an important place in my book and I adore gazing out of the window feeling utterly comfortable in crisp white cotton bed linen, a goose down duvet and pillow on a Vi-Spring bed! Despite being inside you feel remarkably close to all that goes on outside and no doubt the chickens will come trooping past the doors eating anything and everything that make their eggs exceptional and breakfast a feast to remember with their deep yellow yolks that taste like no other. If you would like to buy half a dozen they are £1.20.
Herefordshire is still a forgotten gem for so much of the year. Come May/June it is home to the Hay Literary Festival but outside of that time you really can escape from the fast track and just relax. Upper Newton Barn is some way from a main road so your wake up call will perhaps be Sylvester the cockerel or on a Sunday Kinnersley Church bells. KIngton is just a few miles away and from here you can get up to Hergest Ridge or visit Hergest Gardens. Bryan's Ground in Presteigne is open seasonally and is really worth a visit if you enjoy gardens. There's information in the barn to help you find the best places to eat in the area or else just ask.

This Blissful retreat is set in an exceptionally beautiful part of rural Britain, where England grazes the Welsh borders yet is a stones throw from cultural town, Hay on Wye. Traditional Otter Cottage is a quintessential countryside haven nestled on our secluded organic farm. Relax in your private garden, enjoy views of the sparkling stream framed by hills beyond, snuggle up inside by a crackling log fire, wander to the pub for dinner or spend a day hiking the majestic Black Mountains!
We feel it is important to note, that unlike many other cottages, Otter Cottage is totally isolated. There are no other holiday cottages on the property and you won't be overlooked by anyone; us or neighbors. The space is 'English Country Cottage'. The cottage has been sensitively furnished, restored and we fill it with original art - the cottage houses many local pieces from local artists. We try our best to make it as cozy and loved as possible to ensure our guests have a memorable trip. We love our cottage and use it for our own family too, so we hope it feels as personal and welcoming to your family as it is for ours. The Cottage has been listed with other holiday cottage companies for years and has some loyal followings! It's old fashioned and charming, an eclectic getaway with higgledy piggldly stairs, antique furniture and open fires. The Daffodil bedroom and Rose bedroom both have double beds and the Lavender bedroom has a queen - the perfect child's room or a comfy nook for an adult! The kitchen has an open fire/wood burner as does the sitting room. We provide ONE basket of logs for each fire ( if you require firelighters please bring your own). The cottage is central heated so even with out log fires its toasty warm. Otter Cottage is very well equipped and has space and privacy. Great for BBQ's, romance and children's games. Enjoy the endless fields, garden, starry night skies unburdened by light pollution (or any pollution) and our sparkling stream. Why not have a picnic in one of our organic meadows? (You are welcome to use our fields but please ask at the farmhouse which ones are suitable.) Otter Cottage comes equipped with a garden table, chairs, BBQ, small fire bowl and there is a lock up shed for bicycles. If you require to bring your horse, stables/paddocks are located at the farm, there are fabulous rides on the hills. Enjoy the best of both worlds, unspoiled countryside and the cultural bustle of famous Hay on Wye. Hay on Wye is a beautiful Norman market town, known for its bookshops and it's only a ten minute drive from Otter Cottage. Don't forget to sample the yummy local food that Hay market provides (Thursday morning) or have dinner by the River Wye at the dreamy River Cafe (has a vegan menu). During the Summer months, you can rent a canoe and spend the day swimming/canoeing on the spectacular River Wye. As stated, the cottage is self catering. Please bring enough groceries for the night you arrive!
You can expect idyllic, unspoiled countryside! Space and serious peace! The air is clean and crisp. There is lots of nature to observe including the odd sighting of Otters on the stream from your kitchen window! Great for explorers, country lovers, peace seekers, families and romantic getaways. The cottage is situated in a valley, on our much loved, organic farm. Expect quintessential country life, slow down and take a breath, let the calm pace of country-life seep into your soul and give you a break from the stress of modern living. The views are meadows, trees, hills and the odd horse. There is a pub (The Pandy Inn) within a miles walk in the village of Dorstone; which can be fun for Summer's eve wanders to dinner or for a pint. The cottage is only a few miles from the beautiful and famous book town of Hay on Wye , the town is home to many delicious pubs and restaurants. There are also some fabulous Castles/Abbey's in the area. Please ask at the house for guidance. There is masses to do locally, pubs, castles, canoeing, horse riding, hiking, swimming in the River Wye, shopping and so much more. Explore the Golden Valley and beyond. The Golden Valley, in our opinion, is one of the worlds most outstanding areas of natural beauty.

Wirklich genossen - danke Susannah!

The best castles are Goodrich, near Ross-on-Wye, Eastnor, near Ledbury and Ludlow Castle. Hereford cathedral is worth a visit too – make sure to see the Chain library and the Mappa Mundi, one of the first maps of the world. The Welsh border country was made for walkers, with the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons as well as the beautiful River Wye. Walking up Pen-y-Fan is a must in the Brecon Beacons. There are plenty of local walks too. The Herefordshire Trail passes through Eardisley, and there’s also a good walk to the 900-year-old oak tree down the road. Just turn right out of the drive. The River Wye is one of the country’s most beautiful rivers, and the best way to enjoy the scenery is from the river itself. You can hire kayaks and canoes to paddle downstream and be picked up at an agreed spot further on. If you’re looking for a bit more adventure while you’re here, Oaker Wood Leisure is a great place for outdoor activities, with quad bikes, high ropes and more. North of Eardisley, before you come to Kington, you’ll find the Owl Centre. This small breeds farm and bird centre should be a hit with the little ones.

Perfekter offener Wohnraum mit allem, was Sie brauchen.

A beautiful black and white cottage beside a small river with the double bedroom overlooking the garden. There are lots of lovely walks on the doorstep and the town of Hay on Wye just a short drive away. Its peaceful and lovely and a great place to unwind and listen to bird song. I do have two small dogs, one is very shy, the other is everybody's friend, and a very shy cat who probably won't come near you.
I have a large double bed with a memory foam topper so you'll be very comfortable. There are a lot of beams so you'll need to duck occasionally and the stairs are quite steep although there is a hand rail. The bedroom is double aspect so you will get a sunny wakeup in the morning and peaceful light in the evening.
The walking is wonderful with the Black Mountains and the Begwyns a short drive away. Otherwise there are lovely walks around the cottage.

Woolla View is a unique shepherds hut, situated on the English/Welsh border, in the countryside of Eardisley, with the views of Herefordshire hills, including the black mountains near Hay on Wye.
Woolla View is a beautiful Shepherds Hut that I myself handmade from scratch on a caravan chassis, with no plans to follow and only what was envisioned in my mind. My aim was to maximise a sense of space inside the hut, and for it to not feel cramped. Over a year I collected furniture and materials I needed, and spent another year building the hut inbetween the rainfalls and whilst finding funds. This is truly a unique, handmade, authentic hut, which I hope will be appreciated by those wanting to stay at Woolla view. Woolla View is situated at the far end of the garden, surrounded by fields of sheep and orchards. It has a porch area with seating, to take off wet coats and boots after those country walks across the beautiful Herefordshire countryside. Inside the hut is one room, with free standing furniture. There is a traditional welsh dresser, with tea and coffee making facilities, including a small fridge for fresh milk, and fresh tap water in decanters. (Bottled water also available) Opposite you will find an open wardrobe to hang clothes in with a fixed mirror. There is also a small table with two chairs, with a double socket at table height so you can plug in your laptop/tablet and phones to charge, with unlimited access to free WiFi. To keep you warm during your stay, there is an electric heater which is thermostat controlled, making it easy to keep the room at a comfortable temperature for that all important nights sleep. The bed is situated at the end of the hut, with a window where you can look out to the border hills, including the black mountains. Curtains divide the bedroom area from the main space, adding that cosy feel. The double bed has an orthopaedic mattress, complete with crisp white bedding, and all with allergy protectors, including the duvet itself. A shared bathroom is located in a side extention to the main cottage, and is on the ground floor immediately behind the back door. It is easily accessible from the hut with a short walk along a gravelled path, guided by a warm rope light when dark. There is no running water inside the hut, and as such, it is important to note that there is no en-suite bathroom. Furthermore, due to health and safety regulations, we do not have cooking facilities within the hut, eliminating any unwanted strong food odours being left behind, and also a potential fire risk. Woolla view is essentially a room with the added basic essentials to include a kettle and fridge. With no tv or radio, so you really have escaped the noise of technology, enabling you to enjoy the peace of the countryside. Perfect for walkers passing by, and needing a place to rest for the night or two. Woolla view is perfect for reading several books, writing a novel, and/or music, which will coincide with the Hay-on-Wye book festival, and may also benefit those with writers block. Breakfast is available at our local pub/cafe, The New Strand Inn, with evening meals available at the other local pub/ restaurant opposite, the Tram Inn. Both are located in the village of Eardisley, a small welcoming community, and we are passionate about working together to support local businesses in the area. I look forward to welcoming you to Woolla View and please don't hesitate to Contact me with any questions about your stay. James
Eardisley is a short drive from the Shepherds Hut and is located on the black and white trail. With two local pubs and a cafe, there are places to eat during the day and evening, with opportunities to try the local Herefordshire cider. There is plently to see and do and please take a look at our Air Bnb Guidebook on suggestions in and around the loca area.
