A very nice, family friendly trekking. the first 20min are pretty steep but it's doable and the trail is comfortable. Finally one has an amazing view into 'the Valle del Bove' and up to one of the biggest crater of Mount Etna.

Breve escursione che si snoda su un sentiero facilmente percorribile e ben indicato. La strada è a tratti sconnessa o sabbiosa. All'arrivo troverete una meravigliosa vista sul cratere Sud e sulla Valle del Bove, enorme depressione naturale che raccoglie buona parte delle eruzioni del vulcano proteggendo i paesi sottostanti. L'escursione dura circa 2 ore dal parcheggio. Munirsi di scarpe comode o da trekking, giacca antivento e acqua. €20,00 a persona (minimo 2 partecipanti) €15,00 a persona (per gruppi superiori a 8 partecipanti)

The "Schiena dell'asino" is the easiest route to take to admire the spectacle of the Valle del bove. The entrance is along the SP92 from the Sapienza refuge towards Zafferana, at the first intersection (the 401 road for Pedara). We immediately enter a pine forest, walking on a road with a stony ground. This is the most challenging part of the route, with a slope that in some places exceeds 10%; the rest of the path is in beaten earth with no steep slopes. The route continues towards the valley, to the right is the city of Catania, in front we see the Ionian Sea, while from time to time on the left very steep tracks branch off leading higher up towards the Montagnola. Continuing along the path, you reach the edges of the Bove valley; as mentioned, this is one of the most easily accessible places for those who want to closely observe the eruptions of Etna that flow into the valley. The track is suitable for everyone, no special equipment is required, the path is passable in every season unless snow is present. With the torches it is possible to easily follow the path at sunset, so that you can observe the lava in the night and be able to return without any particular difficulties. La "Schiena dell'asino" est la voie la plus facile à suivre pour admirer le spectacle de la Valle del Bove. L'entrée se fait par la SP92 du refuge Sapienza en direction de Zafferana, à la première intersection (la route 401 pour Pedara). Nous entrons immédiatement dans une pinède en marchant sur une route avec un sol pierreux. C’est la partie la plus difficile du parcours, avec une pente qui dépasse parfois 10%; le reste du chemin est en terre battue, sans pente raide. La route continue en direction de la vallée. La ville de Catane se trouve à droite. La mer Ionienne se trouve juste devant, tandis que, de temps en temps, des pistes très raides se bifurquent et montent vers la Montagnola. En continuant le long du sentier, vous atteignez les bords de la vallée de Bove; comme mentionné, c'est l'un des endroits les plus facilement accessibles pour ceux qui veulent observer de près les éruptions de l'Etna qui se déversent dans la vallée. La piste convient à tout le monde, aucun équipement spécial n'est requis, le chemin est praticable en toute saison sauf en cas de neige. Avec les flambeaux, il est possible de suivre facilement le chemin au coucher du soleil, afin de pouvoir observer la lave la nuit et de pouvoir rentrer sans difficultés particulières.
