Have you ever tried 'lardo di colonnata'? It's a unique product made from traditional method of aging a kind of bacon in white marble boxes. Aromatic natural herbs from the area make the rest!

This village around Carrara is famous for its traditional food the lard. In the village there is time for a short visit to sightseeing around before relaxing and tasting the delicious “lard” of local producers. This ancient food, full of proteins and fats, once daily meal of people who worked in the nearby quarry.

Great road to get here through Carrara and old marble quarries with a millennial tradition for marble seasoned lard!! You could hike through the ancient chestnut forest woods easily signposted by CAI (red and white flags maps of treks in Cà di polo) and finish off with some Candia (local red wine) and lard tasting. Mouth watering as I write! Make it adventurous and take the mountain road here via Fosdinovo . Just before the castle Carrara is clearly signposted. It's a windy road with some places to stop for coffee if you get the bends.. like in Castelpoggio.
