A great place to visit for a picnic. There are several great walks around the crook and the main cycle path that connects Morecambe and Lancaster runs through it. Hire a bike and have a great full days cycling without ever having to go on a road.

It's a flat cycle ride or longish walk up Canal, then the River Lune towards Caton. A beautiful spot with several options for riverside walks..

Only 10 minutes drive from the cottage, this dramatic stretch of river offers wonderful views of the Lune Valley whilst being a leisurely and relaxing route to walk and explore. It's one of my favourites and is beautiful whatever the weather.

This beautiful riverside walk in the Lune Valley is really a figure-8 and can easily be done in two shorter halves. Distance: Approx. 5 km / 3.1 miles Gradient and Terrain: Mostly easy, some steep steps. Be careful near riverbanks. Underfoot: fields and river bank, often muddy. Public Toilets and Refreshments: At Crook O’Lune (Woody`s refreshment kiosk is open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 9am – 3pm – CASH ONLY). Pub and Shops in Caton. Getting to the start: Crook O’Lune is just off the A683 about 5 km East of Lancaster. There is a riverside cycle route all the way from Lancaster. Buses go to Caton from where the old railway track provides an easy link.
