Ask most D.C. locals, and they won't even know this exists. Operating as a shipping canal from 1831 until 1924, this is a great place to escape from the crowds for a nice, picturesque walk.

Looking for a great trail to walk in DC? Try the C&O Canal Trail that meets up with the Capitol Crescent Trail by the Waterfront and heads up to Bethesda.

The C&0 Canal trail starts in downtown DC and continues all the way to Ohio! Great for families.
