Silole Sanctuary

Warum Einheimische es empfehlen

This sanctuary is a 900-acre piece of land that the owner set aside for conservation purposes. Located down the dusty Masai Lodge Road, it overlooks the south side of Nairobi National Park. You can walk around the sanctuary for free—it’s filled with all kinds of animals including giraffe, antelope, and impala. I even saw a hyena once! The best way to visit is to park at Masai Lodge and walk in. If you have the guts, from here you can also cross a gorge on an elevated suspension bridge to visit the Kitengela Glass Factory, a charismatic workshop with a little coffee shop and nice cakes.

Our airbnb's look onto this protected patch of bush - leased to the Kenya Wildlife Service as an adjunct to the bordering Nairobi National Park. Good for a hike - keep a sharp eye out for buffalo. Also spotted here are giraffe, eland, Thomson's gazelles, zebra, the occasional rhino and assorted other plains game.

You can reach Silole Sanctuary from the Kampi ya Karin on foot (30 minutes) via the Kitengela Glass hanging bridge over a spectacular gorge
