Once a U.S. Army Air Force training field during World War II, Harris neck has excellent paved hiking and biking trails or drives with outstanding views of a unique woodstork nesting area, alligators, deer, and wild hogs.
About an hour down the coast off of I-95 is the sprawling Harris Neck Wildlife Refuge. Go there to see an abundance of Low Country wildlife but also marvel at the post apocalyptic scene of a Refuge on the site of an old WW2 air force base.
