Old Abilene Town was a busy tourist attraction in the 60’s. However, it fell into disrepair and was closed. Over the past few years, a group of volunteers have been working hard to bring back it’s glory. Mainly funded by generous local donors, it is a work in progress and run as a non-profit organization. Volunteers have repaired and repainted the buildings, created a small general store, and reopened the saloon. The biggest event hosted by Abilene is “Chisholm Trail Days,” held annually on Labor Day weekend. Throughout the summer, can-can girls and gunfighters perform each weekend starting on Memorial weekend. Located next to the Smoky Valley Train.
