Myoryuji Temple is often referred to as Ninja Dera or Ninja Temple due to the many defenses it boasts. It operated as a secret lookout post for Kanazawa Castle when the Maeda Clan ruled over the Kaga domain during the Edo period.

「忍者寺」と呼ばれ、落とし穴になる賽銭箱、床板をまくると出現する隠し階段、金沢城への抜け道が整備されていたとされる井戸などの仕掛けが、寺のあちこちで見られます。創建当時、徳川幕府と緊張状態にあったため、襲撃に備えて出城・砦の役目を果たしていました。外観は2階建てですが、実際は7層になっていて、23部屋と29階段もあると言われています。迷路のような内部をガイドが案内してくれます。事前の予約が必要です。

忍者寺として有名な「妙立寺（みょうりゅうじ）」も徒歩4分です。 日蓮宗の寺院ですが、仕掛けが多く、まるで忍者屋敷！ご予約の上、拝観できます。
